Halloween is just around the corner, and while children are excited at the prospects of extra candy and sugar, dentists are cringing.

While the effects of sugar may not be noticeable right away, too much sugar can quickly lead to tooth decay and cavities, resulting in a need for dental procedures like composite fillings, crowns and root canals.

Earlier this month the American Dental Association released information about dental fillings — a restorative procedure performed to treat tooth decay and cavities.

It wouldn’t be National Dental Hygiene Month without talking about our talented dental hygienist, Artemis!

You probably know that a dental hygienist performs dental cleanings, but you may not know the role hygienist plays at a dental office. Dental hygienists work closely with dentists, specialists and front and back office staff. Beyond performing routine and periodontal cleanings, hygienists take dental x-rays, place sealants, clean rooms, sterilize instruments and much more. They also help educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.

If so, you may suffer from bruxism — involuntary grinding of the teeth, usually during sleep. Bruxism can also present itself during the daytime, sometimes caused by stress, a misaligned bite, or excessive caffeine.

New research shows hospitalized coronavirus patients are more likely to die of respiratory failure if they suffered from periodontitis before contracting COVID-19, according to an international team of dental researchers.

Dentists play a big part in managing the personal dental care of individuals. Dentists check your teeth and mouth for signs of cavities and gum disease.

Many are interested in teeth whitening products to obtain a good smile like that of celebrities.

You can have whiter and radiant teeth by using whitening toothpaste. Nevertheless, ensure that such whitening toothpaste contains fluoride as well as other ingredients that ward off plaque and tartar.

Some people feel guilty because they neglected or abused their teeth as a child or when they were growing up. They did not brush regularly, smoked cigarettes, drank coffee, and more. Maybe that is the way you are feeling. You may be self-conscious when you smile. If you are seeing yellowish color tinge on your teeth or experiencing severe sensitivity to hot or cold food items, you still have the opportunity to do better with your dental care.
